Aleksandra's Note: So pleased to see that the long road taken in saving the Serbian-American Museum St. Sava on Barry Street in Chicago has finally ended with a victorious outcome! On Thursday, February 1, 2018, the Chicago Landmarks Commission voted to make this unique building a permanent landmark in Chicago, thus saving it from demolition. I spent many hours here in the 1990s and have many fond memories of this special place!
Well done and thank you to all who contributed in the effort to save the Serbian-American Museum St. Sava!
From Martina Bertsch on February 1, 2018:
"Our beloved DOM - Serbian American Museum St. Sava - was voted Permanent Landmark today. Many thanks to all who contributed to this victory for our community.
"Very special thanks to the Commissioners, Alderman Tunney, Matt Crawford of the Department of Planning & Development, Ward Miller of Preservation Chicago, for their support and recognition of the Serbian American contributions to Chicago's history and culture."
"Naš DOM je izglasan za Landmark! Hvala svima koji su svojim zalaganjem doprineli ovoj pobedi."
